I’m not sure if you’ve posted him before, but I can’t imagine any sort of crushes blog without him!
Meet my history crush, Basil Rathbone. He was born in Johannesburg, but his father was accused of being a British spy so they moved back to Britain. He was a lover of theatre and acted in several plays, but WWI interrupted. He served in the British Army and even won an award for bravery. Basil eventually moved to America and continued a wonderful career on stage and in film. He was a very famous actor during the 30’s and 40’s, most remembered from his role in Sherlock Holmes. He was married twice, the first for twelve years, and the second for over forty until his death of heart attack in 1967. He left behind 2 children, Rodion and Cynthia. During his life he won a Tony Award for Best Actor, was made a bachelor knight by King George VI, and later became a member of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. Always modest though, he never used his titles professionally and rarely socially. He also believed homosexuality should not be censored and brought into the open. He was remembered as a kind man who loved animals, theatre, and entertaining by one of his coworkers.
And if all that were not enough to make you love him, he’s positively gorgeous!
